Product Description
Super Z6 was designed by SCC for cars, trucks, and SUV's with restricted clearance around the drive tires. Based on SCC's experience with other products in the "Z" family, Super Z6 has one very special quality: it will operate in less than half of the space required by most cable chains and tire chains. Super Z6 requires only 6mm (1/4") of sidewall clearance to operate. The diagonal pattern provides constant traction, aggressive starting, stopping, cornering and ensures compatibility on vehicles equipped with traction control and electronically monitored brake systems. Traction coils, made from alloy steel are more durable than conventional tire or cable chains. A split outside cable with two fastening positions allows for easy installation without moving the vehicle, and there's no need to stop and retighten. Most cars, trucks and SUV's manufactured since the late 80's will have special clearance requirements. Don't be fooled by the appearance of the tire positioning on your vehicle. Traction products not only have to fit the tire, but must also fit within the space provided around the tires. Most issues are hidden from view as they are behind the tire near braces, suspension parts, strut housings, splash guards and fuel and brake lines. More information should be located in the owner's manual under chains, traction devices, tires or similar heading. It is important to select a traction product that is compatible with the minimum class assigned to your vehicle. The class assigned to your vehicle is based on the original tire and wheel size shown in your owner's manual. Using a different size tire may affect the chain's ability to operate properly. Some owner's manuals state that certain tire sizes do not provide enough clearnace to accommmodate winter traction products. The fact is, many of these vehicles can use SCC's Super Z6. Trying to measure the nearest obstruction under your vehicle could prove tricky.

Works excellent on BMW e46 330i
I use these on my rear wheel drive BMW 330i which has very little clearance. These are very easy to use, but only after you figure out how to use them. Combined with snow tires (stock summer tires are worthless, chains or no chains) I am able to drive you all but the worst mountain conditions Tahoe with ease.

The instructions that come from SCC assume you can reach behind the tire, which you can't given the limited clearance. So you will have to move the car, but it's far easier to reach the inside latch when it's on the bottom/side instead of inside the wheel well.

1.) Fasten the outside fastener that is opposite the silver colored bottom fastener for the inside

2.) Hang cables over top such that the open latches are on the bottom of the tire

3.) Move car forward quarter wheel turn

4.) Fasten inside fastener which you can reach from the rear, then 3rd (last remaining) outside fastener

5.) Mount tensioner and drive away

Fit well, good grip, broke after 20 minutes!!
I bought these for our Mazda 6 which has extremely narrow clearance for normal SAE Class S chains. These ones were more expensive, but with CHP insisting on setting up Chain Controls on the I-80 when the road is just wet, it was necessary to have something that would work.

Well, these were reasonably easy to fit - I've limited experience of chains, having used two or three other types before, and we were able to get them on in under 7 minutes the first time we needed them on the Donner Pass. They also fitted perfectly - they cleared the car's innards without making any horrible noises. And they grip well - I used them to climb up the snow covered driveway that we had and they gripped very well. The car just spun without the chains on.

But they both snapped within 20 minutes!! We only went at 20 mph because the traffic was that busy and I don't like the idea of driving them much faster but one cable (the one at the level of the connection between the two ends) snapped apart on each side. The weak point appears to be the extra thin cable on the inside of the tire.

They fitted well and worked well whilst we had them on. To be honest, they even worked well after this bit snapped off - there were plenty of other cables still present to provide enough grip, but it's pretty poor for such hammed-up products to be so defective. I am not sure that driving on the wet I-80 without much snow on was good for them - but then, what can you do in a CHP Chain Control. Apart from buy an AWD car?

No much point in returning them - you have to send them back to SCC via UPS because the USPS don't deliver to their address and they will decide whether to replace them or not. And I leave the country permanently in a month! Never mind....

Excellent low-profile cables
While I've only used a couple types of snow cables in my life, this is by far the easiest set I've ever put on. While it's the only cable recommended for my car ('09 WRX) due to little clearance, I'm 100% happy with the purchase. Simple to take on and off, no problems at recommended speeds, and they seem sturdy enough.

Prius survived blizzard of 2010
My wife is an ED doctor and needed to go to work the night that the blizzard of February 2010 started. We ordered these tire cables on Amazon.com and had them delivered overnight. I didn't think that the order would make it to us since we ordered 32 hours before we needed them, but they came right on time as advertised.

I read lots of review before buying them and I was hesitant because several people's reviews said that the tire cables didn't fit their car's tires properly, including some Toyota Prius owners. In the end, we needed something so I ordered them. This was only after carefully reviewing my the Prius's tire specifications that are written on the tires themselves. We have a 2007 Toyota Prius with standard factory tires. They were Good Years with 185-65R-15. That night, right before it started snowing we got the tire cables. First I, and then my wife both secured the Security Chain Company Super Z6-123 tire cables onto the Prius's front tires. At first this was a little difficult. The directions are not very clear until you have played with the cables a little bit. WIth practice, however, we were able to put them on and take them off with icreasing ease. In the end both my wife and I were able to put the tire cables on and then remove them. We did this in a nicely lit garage. While we had the chains on, we also took a brief drive around our neighborhood before it started snowing. The chains handled the drive well without breaking or getting caught up. We then packed them away so she could use them for her return from work. However, by the time she left for work, there were already 3 inches of snow on the ground. Since you cannot go over 30mph with the chains on, and she was going to be on a highway we thought she could put them only to get back from work. She tried to leave without the chains on. 10 minutes later she returned saying the car with its Vehicle Stability Control constantly going off was sliding everywhere. She couldn't even make it up the slight incline into our garage. There in the snow we each put one tire cable on each front tire. Both our hands got very cold, but we were able to do it in 2-3 inches of fresh snow. She then drove off slowly and without a single difficulty. She arrived safely to work, and she told me she was the only non-4x4 on the road. She then got back from work even while people with SUV's were getting caught. She never went over 30mph, but was going 25-30mph for many miles on the highway (~20 miles) and then on smaller roads. She was driving mostly on packed snow base, and frequently in slush and sheer ice as well. The chains are still in good shape and as we await yet another crazy mid-Atlantic snowstorm, I anticipate needing her car to go to work myself in the coming days. The product could be a little easier to put on, but it was a perfect tight fit, and it held up to ~50 miles of driving already and looks in great shape.

Before buying, make sure you know your tire sizes. We found the chart that SCC provides to be accurate and appropriate.

Thanks,

Cem

great product
I ordered these items Wednesday afternoon, and they arrived Thursday evening (with Amazon Prime and $4 for overnight delivery). I used them today for the first time on my Ford Explorer in Baltimore driving in our big blizzard. They are great. Easy to put on and they got me home safely from work.
